The First census was conducted in the then the Trucial States in 1968. A separate census for Abu Dhabi was held in 1971.
Mid 1974, the Central Administration of Statistics of the Ministry of Planning decided to conduct the first UAE census, this was considered the first census of its kind; it was concluded on a scientific basis and according to international norms. Subsequently, other censuses were held in 1985, 1990 and 1995.
